Inviting Indian startups to SeedCamp, Europe’s YCombinator…

If you are an Indian startup that is wanting to gain exposure outside India (specially in Europe), this could interest you. SeedCamp (the YCombinator for Europe) is happening in mid Sep (15-19) in London. Interested first time entrepreneurs can apply here (last date is 10th Aug). Twenty startups will be selected from the initial lot and they get to participate in the five day event that features experience sharing/mentoring sessions with serial entrepreneurs, corporates, product designers, venture capitalists, lawyers, accountants etc. On the final day the startups have to present their plans and five of these will get selected. The selected startups will get seed funding upto €50K for a 10% stake. They can use this money to move to London for three months. During this period they will have to work on the product, while completing the formalities for setting up the company. At the end of the three months, they get a chance to showcase their products to a select group of investors for funding. Other details here.

Seedcamp is specially interested in getting startups from outside US (specially from Europe, Middle East, Asia or Africa).

The event is orgainsed by a team of investors & entrepreneurs that is headed by Saul Klein, ex VP Mkt of Skype and a venture partner at Europe based Index Ventures.

These are the six finals elected startups from SeedCamp2007 (selected from 268 applicants from 17 countries).

Confession: It’s official now! SlideShare loses its (financial) virginity

i-has-a-marriage.jpgJust wanted to confess on this blog that my startup, SlideShare has now officially lost its bootstrapping (aka financial virginity) status. And we have entered into a serious relationship with one of those big venture firms in Silicon Valley. This was not an impulsive decision; the marriage was preceded by a courtship that lasted a couple of months- horoscopes were matched (Indian style), the (technology) pundits were consulted and each party tried to woo the other with candle-lit dinners, chocolates, long midnight serenades etc. Here’s hoping this relationship blossoms into a life-long partnership for the benefit of the extended family (the slideshare community).

And if you are bored of reading drab press releases announcing funding news (like I am), check out the slide deck below. This is a makeover that our design team gave to the official press release. It is based on a very popular presentation style on slideshare that has almost achieved cult status now!
